Cardinal Meadow is one of the very few sanctuaries in the North, even providing for the hike it takes to reach it. The meadow offers many dug-out dens for roving wolves in search of a place to spend the night or to den in for a while. Deer occasionally pass through as well, albeit warily - wolf country is a dangerous place for them. It is home to many cardinals - birdsong fills the air year-round. The meadow was once camp for a sedentary, rather large (for northern standards) pack long ago, but a sickness decimated much of their numbers and the rest scattered.
